The Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Youth of the Slovak Republic has announced a call for applications for the ‘Scholarships for Talented International Students’ grant programme, which forms part of a national project co-funded by the European Union.

This initiative opens up excellent opportunities for young people from all over the world who wish to pursue a high-quality European education at Bachelor’s or Master’s level, or on combined Bachelor’s-Master’s programmes, in fields of study covered by the Slovak Republic’s Smart Specialisation Strategy (SK RIS3 2021+).

The winners of the competition will receive financial support of 500 euros per month, amounting to up to 5,000 euros per academic year (a total of up to 15,000 euros for a three-year bachelor’s degree or a five-year combined programme, or up to 10,000 euros for a two-year master’s degree). In addition to the scholarship, students will have access to state health insurance, the opportunity to take part in Erasmus+ academic mobility programmes, the choice of studying in Slovak or a foreign language, and the chance to obtain a degree recognised throughout the European Union.

Candidates who have completed or are currently completing their general secondary education outside Slovakia (in particular, graduates of Ukrainian schools, regardless of the year of graduation) are eligible to enrol in the programme at bachelor’s level. At Master’s level, applicants who have obtained a Bachelor’s degree outside Slovakia (including graduates of ЦUNU) and are applying to a Slovak higher education institution for the first time are eligible to apply.

The main criterion for selecting candidates is achieving a score of at least 1,100 in the SAT, or achieving an average percentile of at least 63 in the SCIO tests in mathematics and general academic aptitude. To apply, you must complete a quick registration process and fill in the online form on the official portal https://scholarships.portalvs.sk/ by July 31, 2026 (23:59 CET).

Instructions on how to complete the registration form correctly can be found in the relevant guide via the link https://scholarships.portalvs.sk/public_files/f8ef510905f6fe45c811c764957288f5.pdf

Please note that applying for a scholarship and applying for admission to a higher education institution are two separate procedures; therefore, applicants must also fulfil all the requirements of their chosen university within the specified timeframe.
