Maksym Lavryk represented Ukraine at the World Athletics Championships in the USA
Maksym Lavryk, a student at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of WUNUy, achieved an outstanding sporting result at the World Junior Athletics Championships (U20), which took place in Eugene (Oregon, USA).
The WUNU student competed for the Ukrainian national team in the shot put event. At the legendary Gayford Field stadium, our athlete demonstrated an unbreakable will to win and a high level of skill.
In the qualifying round, Maksym threw the 6-kilogram shot put to a distance of 18.56 metres. As a result, the WUNU student came in an honourable 13th place in the world. Maksym fell just four centimetres short of reaching the coveted final of the world’s top twelve young athletes. He was overtaken at the last moment by a competitor from the USA.
Throughout the summer season, Maksym Lavryk consistently achieved excellent results: he won gold at the Ukrainian U20 Championships in Lviv with a throw of 19.05 m, claimed the top medal at the fourth stage of the Ukrainian Cup in Kyiv (19.15 m) and finished fourth at the Balkan Junior Championships in Romania.
