On May 21-22, 2026, the Department of Information and Computing Systems and Control of the Faculty of Computer Information Technologies at West Ukrainian National University (WUNU) hosted the 1st International Scientific and Practical Conference for Students and Young Scientists, “ICSPM 2026: Intelligent Computing Systems and Project Management,” dedicated to the 60th anniversary of West Ukrainian National University.

The conference brought together participants from 13 countries and served as an international scientific communication platform for exchanging research results, scientific ideas, and practical developments.

The conference program covered a wide range of current topics in modern IT science and practice, including intelligent computing and software systems, project-oriented management and decision-making processes, artificial intelligence, data analytics and cybernetics, applied technologies and information and communication systems, digital transformation, cybersecurity, IT-oriented innovations, and the application of contemporary information technologies in economics, law, and education.

The plenary session was attended by researchers, educators, experts, and young scientists. Participants were welcomed by Ihor Yakymenko, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Information Technologies at West Ukrainian National University, who emphasized the importance of developing international scientific cooperation, supporting young researchers, and implementing modern digital technologies in science and education.

Acting Head of the Department of Information and Computing Systems and Control, professor Nataliia Dziubanovska, welcomed the participants and wished them productive presentations, fruitful discussions, and further scientific achievements. The next speaker, professor Carsten Wolff from Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Germany), presented the Project and Innovation Management for Ukraine (UA4PIM), highlighting its current tasks, objectives, and long-term strategic plans.

Associate Professors of the Department of Information and Computing Systems and Control Iryna Turchenko and Mykhailo Dombrovskyi, continued the discussion on international educational cooperation by presenting the launch of a virtual cross-border innovation project scheduled for June. They discussed the involvement of Computer Science students and the development of their competencies and skills in innovation and startup activities within the international IT environment. Scientific coordination of the UA4PIM project will be carried out by professor Anatolii Sachenko, Director of the Research Institute of Intelligent Computer Systems.

Continuing the plenary session, representatives of higher education institutions and research organizations from Ukraine, Germany, Poland, Pakistan, and Azerbaijan delivered keynote presentations and greetings. Among them were Inna Chaikovska (Khmelnytskyi National University, Ukraine), Nelli Ukhova (Dresden University of Technology, Germany), Dariusz Bober (University of Rzeszów, Grupa Maspex, Poland), M. Majid Khan (COMSATS University Islamabad, Pakistan), and Elvin Majidov (international customs and trade policy consultant, Azerbaijan).

During the sectional sessions, participants presented research findings related to neural networks, RAG agents, transformer models, IoT systems, intelligent control systems, digital educational technologies, and other modern solutions. Discussions encouraged active exchange of ideas among students, young researchers, academics, and industry practitioners.

A separate component of the conference was the international scientific workshop ICSPM-WS 2026, held on May 22 in a hybrid format. Participants were welcomed by professor Mykola Dyvak, Vice-Rector for Scientific Research at West Ukrainian National University, and professor Olha Tsaryk, Director of the International Center for Culture and Development.

The workshop focused on intelligent computing systems, project management, cybersecurity, AI-oriented approaches, cloud architectures, navigation technologies, and digital decision-support tools. Alongside presentations from researchers representing various Ukrainian universities, international experts also delivered keynote speeches. In particular, Mike Richardson (Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration IZM, Germany), invited researcher, presented a talk entitled “Infrastructure Obeys the Laws of Physics: Systems Engineering in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” The workshop also featured stakeholder participation from Ruslan Savchyshyn, founder of MagneticOne Group.

At the conclusion of the workshop, a special award sponsored by the Research Institute of Intelligent Computer Systems was announced for the author of the best scientific paper. The winner will receive an opportunity to publish their research results free of charge in the proceedings of the 14th IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Data Acquisition and Advanced Computing Systems (IDAACS 2027), which will take place on September 22-25, 2027, in Athens, Greece.

The conference became an important event in the scientific life of the Department of Information and Computing Systems and Control and the Faculty of Computer Information Technologies, contributing to the strengthening of international academic cooperation at West Ukrainian National University.

The Department of Information and Computing Systems and Control expresses sincere gratitude to the university administration for supporting this initiative, as well as to all participants, speakers, moderators, members of the program and organizing committees, and financial and technical sponsors for their active involvement, insightful presentations, and valuable contribution to the successful organization of the 1st International Scientific and Practical Conference ICSPM 2026.
