Oleksandra Vasylchyshyn, a professor at the Department of Security and Law Enforcement of WUNU, took part in a study visit to Warsaw, organised as part of the Ukraine Programme for Learning Integrity in Financial Training (UPLIFT). The programme brought together participants from various fields with an interest in financial security and combating financial crime. The study visit was organised by the Centre for Financial Integrity (CFI) in collaboration with the UK’s Centre for Finance and Security (CFS) at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI).

The aim of this visit was to gain a deeper understanding of current approaches to combating financial crime, particularly in the field of AML/CFT, and to familiarise participants with international standards and best practices for their implementation.

The speakers outlined the strategic role of AML in ensuring security, analysed the nature of money laundering and terrorist financing, and focused on approaches to information gathering, the organisation of investigations, and preventive measures. The importance of public-private partnerships was highlighted by the Director of the Centre of Excellence in Anti-Money Laundering. A senior researcher at RUSI explored the financial aspects of foreign interference and hybrid threats, particularly their impact on democratic processes. The Director of the Centre for Finance and Security (CFS) at RUSI presented on international sanctions and typical schemes for circumventing them. He focused on the role of maritime networks and the shadow fleet. Oksana Ihnatenko, Executive Director of the Centre for Financial Integrity (CFI), analysed financial crimes of particular relevance to Ukraine and explored solutions to strengthen national resilience.

During her visit, Oleksandra Vasylchyshyn, one of ten selected participants from Ukraine, exchanged experiences with representatives from various sectors involved in the development and implementation of financial security policies.

Participation in such programmes and study visits contributes to the further development of the professional community in the field of financial security in Ukraine, as well as raising academic standards and strengthening the reputation of West Ukrainian National University as a centre of excellence in financial security.
