Launch of the ‘Fundamentals of European Integration’ training series as part of the ‘Jean Monnet Chair in European Integration at WUNU’ project
A new educational project is starting at West Ukrainian National University — a series of training sessions entitled ‘Fundamentals of European Integration’, initiated by the staff of the Jean Monnet Chair in European Integration. The programme is being run by the B. Havrylyshyn Institute of International Relations and will take place from 10 April to 30 June 2026.
The training is aimed at undergraduate students and combines lectures, practical sessions and one-to-one tuition. The course is funded by project 101239881 — EUROWUNU — ERASMUS-JMO-2025-HEI-TCH-RSCH under the Erasmus+ programme.
The 150-hour course covers a wide range of topics, including: the history and stages of development of the European Union; the key features of its economic, financial, social and regional policies; and Ukraine’s path towards European integration.
Project coordinator Mariia Lyzun, addressing the students, said: “Today we are launching the first phase of a major project by the Jean Monnet Chair in European Integration at WUNU. The first course for undergraduates is starting, and it is pleasing to see that 108 participants have already joined. Students’ interest in the topic of European integration is extremely important, as Ukraine is already moving confidently along this path.”
Uliana Koruts, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Research at WUNU, emphasised the significance of this event for the university: “This is a special moment for the university, as we previously did not have an institutional platform such as the Jean Monnet Chair. Its establishment is the result of the hard work of a team of like-minded individuals, which has received the support of the European Commission. Today, there are only three such chairs in Ukraine, which is a testament to the high calibre of our community. Participation in this programme not only provides an opportunity to gain knowledge but also fosters an awareness of our responsibility for Ukraine’s European future. It is our shared duty to continue on this path.”
Lyudmyla Havrylyuk-Yensen, Director of the B. Havrylyshyn Institute of International Relations at WUNU, also addressed those present: “It is a great honour for our institute to be part of this project. The team believed in themselves, won the competition, and now we have the opportunity to bring this initiative to life. I hope that the students will take an active part in the programme and enthusiastically join in new projects.”
The teaching staff includes WUNU's leading lecturers: prof. Oksana Desyatnyuk, prof. Andriy Krysovatyy, prof. Mariia Lyzun, prof. Ihor Lishchynskyi, prof. Boyar, prof. Vitalina Kurylyak, prof. Oleksandr Dluhopolskyi, and prof. Konstiantyn Flissak.
