WUNU researchers led a training session entitled ‘The ABCs of Sustainable Development and How to Develop Competencies in Sustainable Management’
From 13 to 17 April 2026, the team behind the ERASMUS+ CBHE project ‘Education for sustainable development: synergy of competences for the recovery of Ukraine’ (SUSTED) ran a training session for lecturers entitled ‘The ABC of SD & how to develop sustainable management competencies?’.
Researchers from WUNU, including the project leader, Prof. Oleksandr Dluhopolskyi, Prof. Ihor Lishchynskyi, Assoc. Prof. Iryna Chyrak, and Assoc. Prof. Anastasiia Virkovska, were responsible for the section ‘Skills for assessing and reporting on progress in education for sustainable development’.
The objectives of the training were: to gain an understanding of the SDGs and their relevance to the educational process in higher education institutions; to develop competencies in the critical internationalisation of higher education institutions and communication with stakeholders to strengthen this process; to develop the capacity to formulate methodological frameworks for ESD; to develop skills for assessing and reporting on progress towards achieving the SDGs; to develop an action plan for implementing the SDGs in individual educational institutions and within the educational process as a whole; and to exchange experiences regarding best practices in the field of education for sustainable development.
Over 150 participants from various universities across Ukraine took part in the training, underscoring the relevance of the topic and the strong interest in integrating the principles of sustainable development into educational processes and management practices. The conclusion of the session provided an opportunity to review the outcomes, generate new ideas and find inspiration for further action.
