As part of the TURBO project (“The Universities’ Reaction to Big Obstructions: Building resilient higher education to respond and manage societal crises”), training sessions on psychological first aid were held for internally displaced persons participating in the project. These initiatives are designed to support people who have suffered from the war and were forced to leave their homes. They help restore emotional balance, develop self-help skills, and strengthen psychological resilience in new living conditions.

Tetiana Nadvynychna and Alla Senyk, associate professors at the Department of Psychology and Social Work of WUNU and specialists at the Education and Research Centre for Social and Psychological Support and Resilience, taught participants how to recognise states of stress and crisis, provide psychological first aid to themselves and others, and restore a sense of security and trust.

Particular attention was paid to the topic of inner resources that help us overcome difficulties and find inspiration and support in our daily lives. During the practical exercises, participants sought out their own ‘pillars of support’ — those things that help them recharge their energy and restore their calm and self-confidence.

Psychological support is a key component of social adaptation and the development of resilience, as looking after mental health is essential not only for personal well-being but also for the strength of the community as a whole.

The project is being implemented with the support of the European Union (ERASMUS-EDU-2023-CBHE, grant agreement No. 101129315)
