Friends, just imagine: two talented students, two brilliant eco-projects, an expert panel led by Acting Rector Viktor Ostroverkhov, project manager, Chair of the Academic Council and Head of the S. I. Yuriy Department of Finance Andriy Krysovatyy, and 20,000 UAH to make their dreams a reality! This is exactly how the university grant pitching event concluded on 5 November at West Ukrainian National University – the finale of the project ‘European Inclusive Circular Economy: A Post-Pandemic Module for Ukraine’ as part of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Module programme.

Following three years of dedicated work by the team led by Professor Andriy Krysovatyy (together with Oksana Desyatnyuk, Roman Zvarych and Iryna Zvarych, based at the S.I. Yuriy Department of Finance, the Department of International Economics and the Department of International Economic Relations) – through lectures, seminars and conferences – the project did not simply come to an end. It launched a new generation of innovators!

On 29 September, a competition for circular economy projects was announced at the final conference. Over 20 ideas were submitted by students – and only two made it to the pitching stage: ‘Sustainable 3D Printing’ – Artem Kucher, a student in group FF-22, specialisation ‘Finance’; ‘EcoLife’ – Anatolii Feshchak, a student in group EME-11, specialisation ‘International Economics’.

Before the expert panel (Lyudmyla Havrylyuk-Yensen, Director of the B. Havrylyshyn Institute of International Relations; student leaders Anastasia Milian – Student Dean of the Faculty of Finance and Accounting, Sofia Anheliuk – Student Director of the B. Havrylyshyn Institute of International Relations; Anton Shevchuk – Chair of the WUNU Student Trade Union), the contestants won everyone over: polished presentations, answers to tough questions, and emotions running high!

Addressing those present, Andriy Krysovatyy, Chair of the Academic Council and Head of the S.I. Yuriy Department of Finance, remarked: “Today we are demonstrating that West Ukrainian National University is a place where ideas become projects and research is transformed into real solutions for sustainable development.”

The winning project was ‘Sustainable 3D Printing’! Artem received 20,000 UAH to bring his idea to life. Anatolii of ‘EcoLife’ got the chance to pitch his project at the municipal level!

“It was incredible!” says Sofia Anheliuk. “All those emotions, the support, the ideas… Young people are a force to be reckoned with!”

The event flew by in the blink of an eye. Discussions, laughter, hugs, inspiration. It’s not just a pitch – it’s the start of something big!

Fancy doing the same? Keep an eye out for WUNU’s announcements – next time, your idea could change the world!
