The colour blue symbolises openness to dialogue and sincere expressions of support, and has become a sign of unity within West Ukrainian National University’s community. This year, the campaign to support people with autism took on a special significance, bringing together students, lecturers and university staff around the values of understanding, acceptance and accessibility.

Students joined the initiative, raising awareness about autism, conducting surveys among participants on their level of knowledge of the subject, and handing out blue ribbons – a symbol of support for people with autism spectrum disorders, a sign of solidarity, acceptance and a willingness to interact without prejudice. In addition, the staff of the WUNU Student Support Centre organised an exhibition entitled ‘Myths about Autism’ and presented materials on the positive traits and capabilities of people with autism spectrum disorders.

During the event, Natalia Yablonska, Director of the Student Support Centre, emphasised the importance of fostering a culture of understanding and support for people with autism: “Accessibility begins with our attitude – with a willingness to see, hear and accept others just as they are. It is through information and open dialogue that we can reduce prejudice and create an environment in which everyone feels included and supported.’

The implementation of such initiatives is an important step towards fostering a culture of respect for diversity and promoting the values of accessibility within the university environment. West Ukrainian National University continues to work consistently towards creating a space in which everyone feels accepted, supported and included in the community.
