Young people and politics in the age of digital transformation
The Political Communications Club held its latest meeting, focusing on the topical issue of ‘Youth political culture in the context of society’s digital transformation’. The event took place online, which enabled a wider range of participants to join the discussion.
The session was chaired by Vitalii Fedunyk, a postgraduate student and lecturer at the Serhii Konoval Department of Political Science and Philosophy of WUNU, who highlighted key changes in young people’s political behaviour under the influence of digital technologies.
Postgraduate students, undergraduates specialising in ‘Political Science’ within the ‘International and Regional Political Communications’ programme, as well as lecturers from the S. Konoval Department of Political Science and Philosophy at the B. D. Havrylyshyn Institute of International Relations, were invited to take part in the discussion.
The participants discussed how social media, digital platforms and new forms of communication are transforming the younger generation’s political engagement and influencing the development of their values, civic attitudes and political identity. Particular attention was paid to issues of information literacy, critical thinking and the role of the digital environment in shaping political views.
In an open discussion format, the students actively participated in the debate, analysing contemporary challenges—ranging from information manipulation to the phenomenon of ‘digital activism’. The young people shared their own experiences of consuming political content and participating in online communications, combining theoretical approaches with practical experience.
In conclusion, the participants agreed that digital transformation not only opens up new opportunities for political participation, but also places a responsibility on young people to ensure the quality of the information they consume and to recognise their own role in shaping political discourse.
Thank you to all participants for their active participation and the fruitful discussion!
