West Ukrainian National University – among the leaders in the Scimago Institutions Rankings!
West Ukrainian National University has once again proven its high standing in the international academic community by securing a place among the leaders in the prestigious Scimago Institutions Rankings (SIR) – one of the world’s most respected rankings, which assesses the performance of academic institutions in the fields of science, research and innovation.
The Scimago Institutions Rankings cover universities, public research organisations, and private and non-profit institutions from around the world, providing a comprehensive assessment of their research performance. The current innovation sub-ranking, in which WUNU took first place, is based on data covering a five-year period (2019–2023) and identifies those institutions whose research results have a tangible impact on technological and economic development.
A distinctive feature of this ranking is its in-depth analysis of innovative activity: it takes into account the university’s publications, affiliated patent applications, and the number of citations of research findings in patents. In other words, the assessment focuses not only on the volume of research conducted by academics, but also on the extent to which their ideas form the basis for new technologies and discoveries.
In this regard, West Ukrainian National University consistently achieves excellent results, affirming its role as one of Ukraine’s leading centres for scientific innovation. The University’s inclusion among the Scimago leaders is not merely another accolade, but also recognition of its contribution to the development of global science and the knowledge economy by the international community.
