Global Money Week 2026: an educational initiative by WUNU students
While the world celebrates Global Money Week 2026, students of West Ukrainian National University have decided that studying is good, but financial fun is even better!
Members of the ‘Financial Literacy’ science club (S. I. Yuriy Department of Finance), together with Associate Professor Viktoria Bulavynets, set off on an extraordinary expedition to the primary school “Erudite” to transform the typical school day for Year 4 pupils and turn it into a real financial adventure entitled “Money Loves the Wise”.
Thanks to the organisers’ creative approach, the event turned into a dynamic intellectual battle from the very first seconds, where logic was closely intertwined with excitement, and childlike curiosity with serious economic issues. Three ambitious teams with telling names – ‘Coins’, ‘Banknotes’ and ‘Piggy Banks’ – bravely threw themselves into the fray for the title of the most financially knowledgeable. The ‘Shop of Solutions’ stage caused a real uproar, where the young experts learnt the art of prioritising, actively debating and skilfully distinguishing between immediate ‘wants’ and strategic ‘needs’.
During the second stage of ‘The World of Professions’, the classroom was transformed before our eyes into a little town of opportunities: the children tried their hand at being doctors, shop assistants and police officers, learnt to negotiate and count their earnings.
The final round, ‘Knowledge Bank’, served as a ultimate test of their knowledge, in which the pupils demonstrated an impressive understanding of currencies, savings and sensible spending.
Although the quiz did determine the winning team, points were not the main focus of the day; instead, it was all about gaining new knowledge and sharing genuine emotions. The event concluded with all participants being presented with symbolic ‘Junior Financier’ certificates, confirming their sound financial reasoning.
This event served as a shining example of how the energy of young people helps shape the financial literacy of the next generation, proving that a responsible attitude towards money is a valuable skill worth mastering from an early age!
