As part of the collaboration between TWest Ukrainian National University and the Ukrainian Association of Fintech and Innovative Companies (UAFIC), academics took part in events of the Ukraine Fintech Week 2026 – an annual large-scale initiative aimed at developing Ukraine's financial technology market, creating a robust fintech ecosystem and enhancing financial inclusion in Ukraine.

Ukraine Fintech Week 2026 is a key institutional platform that demonstrates the adaptability and resilience of the Ukrainian fintech sector amidst martial law and a highly dynamic external environment. The event brings together academics, representatives of the insurance industry, the banking sector, the payments industry, IT companies, regulatory bodies, investors and international organisations, forming a comprehensive platform for professional dialogue and knowledge exchange to enhance the innovativeness of financial solutions.

In the context of integrating education, science and practice, the participation of representatives from the academic community in the events of Ukraine Fintech Week 2026 is more relevant than ever; therefore, from 16 to 20 March, the teaching staff of the Department of Financial Technologies and Banking Business of WUNU, as well as WUNU students, took part in the platforms and panel discussions. In particular, participation in Pay.Forum 2026 provided an opportunity to discuss the drivers of fintech business growth, avenues for improving payment ecosystems, open banking, the use of artificial intelligence in financial services, cybersecurity, and the development of human capital in the fintech sector.

Meanwhile, participation in Digital Lending 2026 sparked a lively discussion among business leaders, industry experts, representatives of fintech companies and academics regarding innovative approaches to digital lending, the development of practical solutions for modernising the payment infrastructure, and the implementation of a new strategy for the sustainable recovery of Ukraine’s economy after the war through the use of digital technologies.

Involving students and lecturers in such professional platforms facilitates the transfer of up-to-date knowledge and experience, helps develop research skills and fosters the ability to critically analyse current trends in fintech, whilst creating the conditions for expanding cooperation between higher education institutions and representatives of the fintech industry, which is a key factor in the development of an innovative economy.

The meetings and discussions held as part of Ukraine Fintech Week 2026 confirm that the Ukrainian fintech sector is a mature, collaborative and strategically important part of the global financial ecosystem, and that the consolidation of the professional and academic communities only serves to strengthen Ukraine’s international integration in the field of financial technology.

The staff of the Department of Financial Technologies and Banking, together with the students, would like to thank UAFIC Director Rostyslav Diuk, our partners and participants for the valuable practical insights!
