With a view to expanding international cooperation in the field of higher education, fostering scientific and academic ties, and establishing professional links between Ukrainian and Latvian educational and legal institutions, academics from West Ukrainian National University visited Riga.

The main focus was on establishing partnerships with law faculties at Latvian universities, identifying joint research areas in other fields, and exploring opportunities to participate in academic mobility programmes under Erasmus+ and bilateral exchange programmes; establishing contacts with representatives of the Bar Council in Riga and Latvian lawyers, who facilitated the organisation of meetings and professional dialogue.

Oksana Desyatnyuk, Rector of WUNU, signed a cooperation agreement between West Ukrainian National University and the Riga School of Law, which is an autonomous unit of the University of Latvia. A meeting was also held with Rector Inga Kacevska and the administration of the Riga School of Law, during which the parties outlined the main stages for the implementation of further cooperation.

We would like to give a special nod to the Bar Council and members of the legal profession for their significant contribution to supporting Ukraine and establishing cooperation with their Latvian counterparts.

A delegation from WUNU visited the towns of Jūrmala and Ogre, where meetings were organised by Ogre Town Council and the mayor himself.
Interesting meetings took place at the central library, at a secondary school recognised as one of the best in Latvia, and at a museum featuring an exhibition dedicated to Ukraine and the Russian-Ukrainian war. This initiative by the mayor, Mr Egils Helmanis, deeply moved the Ukrainian delegation. Quite frankly, the museum made a profound impression with its realism, the pain it conveyed, and the strength of spirit radiating from the photographs, artefacts and stories…

The sincere support for Ukraine shown by our Latvian partners and the public was particularly striking. The atmosphere of solidarity was palpable — Ukrainian flags on all government buildings, large-scale humanitarian initiatives, museum exhibitions dedicated to the Ukrainian people’s struggle for freedom, and the support of the people. This all testifies to the deep empathy, compassion, sincerity and faith.
