Working visit of the WUNU delegation to Athens and Sofia

 A delegation from West Ukrainian National University, consisting of Prof. Anatoliy Sachenko, Associate Professor Lesia Dubchak and Associate Professor Pavlo Bykov, made a trip to Athens (Greece) and Sofia (Bulgaria), marking an important step in the preparation of international scientific events and the development of the university's partnerships.


In Athens, the WUNU team held substantive talks with IEEE IDAACS Co-Chair Prof. Nikos Bardis on preparations for the 14th IEEE International Conference IDAACS'2027. The focus was on the venue and concept of the conference, its format, programme and key organisational issues. The WUNU delegation visited the Officers' House in the city centre, a building with ancient architecture, which is planned to be the venue for the conference sessions.


They also visited the Hellenic Army Academy. Prof. Bardis showed the audience the premises that could be used to host IDAACS'2027 as grant support.


During the visit, WUNU scientists visited the Technical University of Athens, where they met with Antonios Kladas, chairman of IEEE Greece Section. The parties agreed on further steps regarding the participation of the IEEE Greece Section in the organisation of the IDAACS'2027 conference and the procedure for signing a memorandum of understanding.


The WUNU delegation visited Sofia, where a series of working meetings of the consortium took place at the Institute of Space Research of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences as part of the closing of the three-year international project SUDEM “SUstainable Disaster and Emergency Management processes digitisation, aimed at developing modern approaches to the use of digital technologies and AI for disaster and emergency management, as well as strengthening cooperation between partner universities under the ERASMUS+ programme. The final event was a press conference of the consortium teams (Bulgaria, Germany, the Netherlands and Ukraine, as well as the Vice-President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences) at the BTA Press Club (https://www.bta.bg/bg/pressclub/archive/34922). At the end, the project coordinator, Dr Georgi Georgiev, summarised the results of the project and outlined the final stages of the work. During the discussion, further areas of cooperation between the partners were identified.


In addition, the WUNU team visited the Faculty of Information Systems and Technologies at the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies in Sofia. Meetings were held with the dean of the faculty, Prof. Georgi P. Dimitrov and Prof. Vladimir Jotsov, during which promising areas of joint scientific research, preparation of international projects, and the participation of Bulgarian scientists in the 14th International IEEE Conference IDAACS'2027 in Athens were discussed.
