Grant opportunity for researchers: Friends of the Ukrainian Folklore Centre Archives Residency Project 2026–2027

 We are pleased to announce the call for applications for the Archives Residency Project 2026–2027, organised by Friends of the Ukrainian Folklore Centre.


This initiative aims to support scholars, authors, and artists who wish to explore Ukrainian and Ukrainian-Canadian culture using the unique collections of the Bohdan Medwidsky Ukrainian Folklore Archives (BMUFA) at the Peter and Doris Kule Centre for Ukrainian and Canadian Folklore at the University of Alberta (Canada).


The successful applicant will receive financial support of up to 5,000 Canadian dollars (CAD) to cover living expenses, travel and research costs directly in the archives.


The main areas of focus for BMUFA funds are: traditional culture and folklore of Ukrainians in Canada; music, dance and folk art; community, religious and educational life of the diaspora; history of Ukrainians in Canada and other communities around the world.


Residency conditions. Duration: residents must stay at BMUFA for at least two weeks, devoting a full working day to research. Deadlines: research must be completed within one year of receiving confirmation. Reporting: upon completion of the project, a short report and a copy of the scientific or creative work resulting from the residency must be submitted.


How to apply?
Only individual applications will be considered. Applicants must submit a completed application form, a cover letter, a current CV, a project description (2–3 pages) with a plan for using archival materials, a budget of expected expenses, and the contact details of two people who can provide references.

The deadline for submitting applications is 20 March 2026 (until 23:59).
The results will be announced by 15 June 2026.
