West Ukrainian National University hosted a master class on making talismans for soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, organised by the Office for Personal Development and Liberal Arts. The event brought together compassionate students and teachers from the Faculty of Economics and Management, and everyone else who wanted to support Ukrainian defenders not only with words, but also with sincere actions.

Ukrainian journalist, editor-in-chief of the WUNU newspaper ‘University Thought’, volunteer, master of folk arts and crafts, art therapist, writer, artist and public figure Maria Balitska was a special guest at the event. She also presented some of the works from her collection of handmade talismans, which she has been crafting for 10 years.

Ms. Maria shared her experience of creating talismans for Ukrainian soldiers. The young people listened to the master's original poetry about spring, women, peace, and the beauty of their native land. During the meeting, participants learned more about the symbolism of talismans, their significance in folk tradition, and the power of sincere intention invested in the craft. Together with Ms. Maria, the students made talismans, which will later be given to Ukrainian soldiers as a sign of support, faith, and gratitude.

Maria Balitska is a multifaceted figure. She is the author of numerous collections of poetry and verse prose, children's books, plays, novels, and song lyrics. In addition to her writing, she is actively involved in volunteer work and constantly supports the Ukrainian military.

The meeting was warm and sincere. Participants not only mastered new creative skills, but also felt the importance of unity, mutual support and joint work for victory. After creating ‘Larks’ for the Armed Forces, students were treated to sweets made by Ms. Maria and her family.

The ‘Larks,’ created by the hands of young students and filled with their heartfelt wishes for joy, peace, health, goodness, and victory, will ‘fly’ to the front lines to the heroic defenders of Ukraine. Such events prove once again that even a small talisman made with love can become a symbol of faith, strength and support for those who are defending Ukraine today.
