International Day Against Violence and Bullying

On 27 February, the global community unites for an important mission — to step up the campaign against bullying, protect human dignity and support those who have suffered from aggression. West Ukrainian National University traditionally joins this initiative, emphasising once again that bullying is not a method of education or a ‘test of strength,’ but a deliberate, systematic violation of human rights and a undermining of psychological security.

WUNU is a place where everyone has the right to respect, freedom of expression, and a comfortable environment. That is why today we are focusing on the fact that healthy relationships in the educational space are based on equality, partnership and mutual support. It is important to understand that bullying is not a one-off conflict, but systematic aggression in which one party consistently uses its superiority of strength or influence, while the other feels defenceless.

This topic was discussed today at the WUNU Education and Research Centre for Social and Psychological Support and Resilience during a training session conducted by the centre's specialist, Iryna Markiv. They discussed how to recognise signs of bullying, why it is important not to look the other way, how to respond appropriately and how to support someone who is going through a difficult experience. The specialists of the WUNU Centre also held a special event called ‘Wall of Support.’ They created a safe space where everyone could choose words that resonated with them or leave their own words for those who need support right now.

We believe that every student and teacher can help bring about change by creating a world where safety, respect, and mutual support are core values. Let's create an environment where the only force we use is the power of knowledge, intellect, and humanity.
