As part of a special project by Andriy Krysovatyy, Doctor of Economics and Professor, entitled ‘Public Finance Studies’ , teachers, researchers, postgraduate students, and those enrolled in higher education programmes at the Faculty of Finance and Accounting, as well as anyone else interested, had the opportunity to attend an interactive strategic session entitled ‘Geopolitics: Changing the World Economic Order’ on February 3.

The speaker was Jan van Zwieten, professor of management and finance, rector of the Netherlands Business Academy, Doctor honoris causa, certified operational auditor (Netherlands), member of the supervisory board of West Ukrainian National University.

During the speech, a comprehensive analysis of the transformation of the modern world economic order was presented, with an emphasis on the decline in trust in global political institutions, in particular in the economic and political policies of the United States. The lecturer drew attention to the fact that internal political polarisation, controversial management decisions and political practices of the Donald Trump presidency have significantly affected the level of trust of international partners in the US as a stabilising centre of the global economy.

The role of trust as a fundamental category of finance and global economic relations, the importance of financial culture, transparency of reporting, internal control systems and personal responsibility of management for decisions made were highlighted. The lecturer emphasised that loss of trust is a key factor in systemic crises and financial instability.

Another important element of the event was the analysis of the role of resources in the modern world — natural, financial, human and strategic — as the basis for geopolitical influence and economic competitiveness of states. In this context, Ukraine's place in the changing geo-economic landscape was outlined as that of a country with significant resource potential, a strategic geographical location and an important role in ensuring global food, energy and security stability.

The lecturer also paid close attention to the evolution of leadership paradigms — from intellectually oriented management (IQ) and emotional leadership (EQ) to the modern concept of authentic leadership based on spiritual intelligence (SQ), ethical values, and moral authority. Jan van Zwieten noted: ‘It is the model of authentic leadership that is a necessary prerequisite for restoring trust at both the national and global levels.’

During the discussion part of the interactive session, attention was focused on the prospects for strengthening Ukraine's position in the global economy, the role of resources in the post-war recovery of the state, and the possibilities for adapting international experience in managing trust, risks and institutional capacity to the current realities in Ukraine.

The debate sparked considerable interest among participants and served as a platform for professional discussion of current geopolitical and financial-economic challenges.
