An important online meeting took place as part of a series of practical training sessions for students enrolled in the International Relations educational programme. Students of the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy of WUNU had the opportunity to discuss current affairs with students from the University of Portsmouth (UK) on the topic "War and Disinformation: Ukrainian and British perspectives on the hostilities in Ukraine."

Uliana Koruts, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Research at WUNU, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech, emphasising the utmost urgency and strategic importance of the topic under discussion in the context of the full-scale war. The Vice-Rector noted that effective counteraction to disinformation is a key element of information security not only for Ukraine, but for the whole world.

During the meeting, students of the International Relations programme actively shared their own stories and personal experiences of countering disinformation. They talked in detail about specific methods of combating fake news, described practical approaches to verifying information, and analysed how propaganda influences public consciousness and everyday life. Equally important was the opportunity to learn about the experiences of British students: what sources they use to obtain information about events in Ukraine and what methods they use to verify information in order to distinguish truth from fake news.

The event was moderated by Ostap Kushnir, PhD, lecturer at the Department of Politics and International Relations, Deputy Head of the School of Global Engagement in Regional Studies, Sociology, History, Politics and Literature at the University of Portsmouth.

Holding such joint training sessions is an important element of international cooperation. Exchanging experience with foreign partners is extremely valuable for building the information resilience and professional competence of our students. It also makes it possible to effectively counteract powerful disinformation spread abroad and will help spread the truth about Ukraine.
