In September, West Ukrainian National University launched an educational project called ‘English for War Veterans and Their Families,’ which involves retired war veterans and their families, families of deceased war veterans, and family members of deceased defenders of Ukraine who live in Ternopil and the Ternopil region, including Kremenets, Berezhany, Skalat, Buchach, Pidvolochysk, Chortkiv, Zbarazh, and other cities.

Training takes place at the WUNU Education and Research Centre for Foreign Language Studies in both Ternopil and Kremenets (based at the Kremenets Regional Taras Shevchenko Academy of Humanities and Pedagogy).

The training of students is carried out in a mixed format using a communicative programme for in-depth study of English, which involves the use of modern multimedia tools and interactive teaching methods. This flexible approach ensures proper assimilation of the learning material with improvement of lexical and grammatical skills.

Experienced WUNU lecturers conduct the classes: Prof. Chyk, Assoc. Prof. Yanuš, Khmiliar, Sikora, and others. Upon completion of their studies, students will receive certificates of professional development and certificates of English language proficiency in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

The project is being implemented by WUNU with the aim of improving the professional qualifications of retired military personnel and their families and helping them to readjust to civilian life. It is supported by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine and carried out in cooperation with the Department of Veterans Policy of the Ternopil Regional State Administration, the Main Department of the National Police in the Ternopil Region, local social welfare departments in the city of Ternopil and the Ternopil region, as well as veterans' associations, public organisations, and the Ternopil Charitable Foundation ‘Caritas’.

The implementation of such educational initiatives in our region for war veterans and their families is an extremely important and effective tool in helping them gradually adapt to civilian life after leaving the battlefield, increase their professional competitiveness, and further their personal development.
