Safety training held at WUNU

 West Ukrainian National University held a safety training session for students with the participation of representatives from various departments of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Ternopil region.


The participants were addressed by the university rector, Oksana Desyatnyuk, who emphasised the importance of cooperation between educational institutions and rescue services in order to improve the level of safety, awareness and preparedness of young people to act in emergency situations.
The event included seven locations.


During the meeting, SES specialists presented the activities of their departments, talked about the main areas of work of the service, demonstrated special equipment and techniques, and shared practical advice on what to do in case of fire, emergencies or the discovery of explosives.


Specialists from the Special Purpose Emergency Rescue Unit of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Ternopil region conducted a training session entitled ‘Mine Safety. Procedure for Detecting Explosives’, during which participants learned about the rules for handling suspicious objects.


Representatives of the Educational and Methodological Centre for Civil Protection and Life Safety in the Ternopil region organised a practical training session on ‘Providing First Aid.’ Students had the opportunity to practise their skills in providing assistance for injuries, burns, and other emergency situations.


Employees of the canine and rescue department of the Main Directorate presented a demonstration lesson entitled ‘Canine Service and Mountain Rescuers,’ during which specialists demonstrated the capabilities of searching for and rescuing people from under rubble and at heights.


Representatives of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Department conducted training on ‘Radiation and Chemical Hazards,’ familiarising participants with the rules of conduct in the event of a threat or occurrence of such situations.


Specialists from the psychological service of the Main Directorate organised a session entitled ‘Psychological resilience of the population in the event of an emergency,’ during which they discussed ways to maintain emotional balance and reduce stress.


Representatives of the Ternopil District Civil Protection and Fire Safety Department of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Ternopil region provided participants with information on compliance with fire safety requirements and the procedure for actions in the event of a fire or an air raid siren, in particular the evacuation of participants in the educational process.


Finally, the specialists of the Main Directorate also familiarised students with the basic primary fire-fighting equipment and the procedure for its correct use.


Students from all faculties of the university had the opportunity to talk directly with rescuers, ask questions, try on pieces of equipment, and participate in training sessions on providing first aid and evacuation.


The event promoted the culture of safety among students, strengthened partnership ties between WUNU and the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Ternopil Region, and increased the readiness of the younger generation to act in crisis situations.
