A contest for interpreters held at WUNU

 On the occasion of International Day of Interpreters, the Department of Foreign Languages and ICT organised a competition for student interpreters of West Ukrainian National University.


WUNU students, specifically those enrolled in the Business Communications and Translation study programme, participated in the contest. It comprised several stages and involved translating from English into Ukrainian and vice versa.


The English-speaking guests were Volodymyr Sydiaha, an employee of the International Relations Office of WUNU, and Umer Salyam, a medical student from Kashmir, India. The Ukrainian-speaking guests were Volodymyr Mazur, a professor and candidate of economic sciences, and Dmytro Shushpanov, a professor and doctor of economic sciences.


The participants and guests were also congratulated by Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Research Uliana Koruts and the Director of the B. Havrylyshyn Institute of International Relations Lyudmyla Havrylyuk-Yensen. They emphasised the important role of translators in today's multicultural world, stressed the importance of professional competence in international communication, and wished the students confidence in their own abilities and an inexhaustible thirst for knowledge.


According to the jury, which consisted of the department's faculty members, Sofia Khrustalova and Olesia Khlod won first place. Second place went to Mykola Yurechko and Sophia Sapiha. Third place went to Tetiana Petrovska and Anastasia Plutenko.
