Dear friends!
My warmest congratulations on our country's greatest national holiday – Ukraine's Independence Day!
This day symbolises our freedom, dignity and strength of spirit, won through centuries of struggle for the right to be masters of our own land.
Today, Ukraine is facing its most difficult challenges since gaining independence. In these trying times, we fully appreciate the value of freedom and statehood, and we realise that our flag, our language and our culture are what make us strong and unbreakable. Our defenders are giving their lives for the right to live in a free country, and we will never forget their sacrifice and heroism.
Independence Day is also a day of responsibility. Responsibility to those who defend Ukraine today and to future generations. Each of us must cherish our country: educators by raising conscious citizens, scientists by introducing innovations, students by persistently acquiring knowledge, businesses by creating jobs, and every Ukrainian through their daily work and support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The West Ukrainian National University is proud to be part of the large Ukrainian community that is building a new Ukraine – a European, democratic and strong country.
We are thankful to our soldiers who are defending our homeland today.
Dear friends, may this day give us faith that victory will surely be ours, because we are a people who cannot be conquered. May Independence inspire us to great achievements, and may love for our homeland unite us and make us stronger.
I wish everyone peace, health and confidence in the future. May every home be filled with kindness and harmony, and may the blue and yellow flag always fly proudly over our native land.
Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!
Sincerely, Oksana Desyatnyuk, Rector of WUNU
