A delegation from the West Ukrainian National University recently paid an official visit to the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Medical University in Warsaw (UM MSC). During this period, there was a notable emphasis on sincerity, professionalism, compassion, and optimism.

The delegation included: Ulyana Koruts (Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Research), Liliia Kondratska (Group Coordinator), Ulyana Tkach and Svitlana Vovk (Associate Professors of the Department of International Tourism and Hospitality Business).

During the study tour, the participants visited the research and development centre of ADAMED, a leading representative of the Polish pharmaceutical industry, whereupon the official transfer of humanitarian aid for the Ukrainian military took place, initiated by the Department of International Tourism and Hospitality. We are sincerely grateful for this support of the Ukrainian academic community and our defenders; official talks with the leadership of the Medical University were held at the Lubomirski Palace. The team presented new areas of cooperation, academic exchange, joint international initiatives, and discussed the possibility of implementing projects under the Erasmus+ programme.

As part of the meeting, the Vice-Rector of the West Ukrainian National University Uliana Koruts presented the ‘RELIABLE PARTNER’ award to Marie Skłodowska-Curie Medical University as a sign of appreciation for the systemic support, great partnership and solidarity with Ukraine in difficult times. The delegation also visited the psychiatric department of the Medical University in the hospital in Drevnytsia. During the visit, the participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the modern facilities of the clinic, innovative approaches to treatment, including a multisensory garden for patients and mental health support programmes. An important part of the meeting was discussing areas of cooperation in the field of mental health.

In particular, they discussed the possibility of Polish assistance in the field of psychological and mental training for students of the WUNU (especially IDPs), as well as family members of Ukrainian soldiers. The issues of rehabilitation, overcoming traumatic experiences, preventing burnout and preserving the internal resources of young people in times of war were raised.

And the words written in the gazebo of the clinic: ‘Najpiękniejsza wiosna jest dobroć serca’ (The most beautiful spring is the kindness of the heart) became the emotional highlight of the trip.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Rector of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Medical University, Prof. dr hab. n. med. Krzysztof Jerzy Filipiak for the brilliant organisation of the visit, for the extraordinary atmosphere of trust, openness and professionalism, as well as for his constant and sincere support of Ukraine in difficult times. His leadership is inspiring, and his empathy is remarkable!
