Happy birthday to WUNU!
59 years ago, West Ukrainian National University entered the educational arena of Ukraine.
Although the first entry in the biography would sound a little different.
On 30 June 1966, Order No. 418 of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialised Education of the Ukrainian SSR was issued, according to which, pursuant to a resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR, a study unit of the Faculty of Finance and Economics of the Korotchenko Kyiv Institute of National Economy was opened in Ternopil.
This is all history. As well as the fact that in just 5 years, under the leadership of the head, dean, and then rector Leonid Kanishchenko, the study unit will became an independent higher educational institution of financial and economic profile. The forthcoming path was difficult but glorious, and it became a leading higher educational institution, a broad-spectrum university known not only in Ukraine but also far beyond its borders. Over the years, WUNU has evolved into the core of thousands of teachers and staff who have put their hearts and souls into the growth of the educational institution, more than two hundred thousand young men and women who, having gained thorough knowledge and necessary skills, have amplified the greatness and glory of their homeland. Over the course of its existence, the university has been headed by five rectors: Leonid Kanishchenko, Petro Humeniuk, Oleksandr Ustenko, Serhiy Yuriy, and Andriy Krysovatyy. Each of them made a considerable contribution to the university's developement.
Under the leadership of Rector Oksana Desyatnyuk, the staff and students of the West Ukrainian National University have demonstrated that they can meet the demands of the times, as evidenced by their daily activities.
In the difficult days of the war, some of them have chosen to defend their homeland so that we could continue to build a prosperous European state of Ukraine.
According to the rankings of higher education institutions in Ukraine, our university is consistently among the top 20 universities in Ukraine. The work started by our predecessors back in 1966 is ongoing!
