Recently, as part of their professional training, undergraduate students enrolled in the Customs and Taxation and Finance programmes, as well as graduate students enrolled in the Customs and Fiscal Administration programmes, took part in a field trip to Customs Clearance Department No. 3 of the Ternopil Customs Post of the Ternopil Customs, which operates on the territory of Western Container Terminal LLC.

The meeting was held by Vitalii Melnikov, Deputy Head of the Customs Post and Head of Customs Clearance Department No. 3. Participants had the opportunity to learn about key aspects of customs clearance at a modern customs post, from the specifics of customs procedures to the operation of electronic control and data exchange systems, as well as the specifics of logistics terminals in the customs control zone.

In a question-and-answer format, students addressed customs specialists on topical issues concerning the specifics of customs control, the procedure for applying various customs regimes, as well as organisational and legal aspects of the work of customs authorities.

Special attention was paid to the working conditions of customs authorities under martial law: logistical challenges, changes in regulatory policy, interaction with related agencies and customs authorities of other countries, as well as the need for rapid response to risks. The extremely important role of the customs service in filling the state budget and preventing violations of customs legislation was also emphasised – tasks that are particularly important in wartime.

The event was held under the general supervision of the guarantors of educational programmes – Viktoriia Sidliar, PhD in Economics, Associate Professor, and Sviatoslav Herchakivskyi, PhD in Economics, Associate Professor. Such training courses are an important part of the professional training, as they allow students to integrate academic knowledge with practical experience, deepen their understanding of current challenges and learn modern approaches to customs administration.

We would like to thank Ternopil Customs for their openness to cooperation, practical support for educational initiatives and promotion of professional growth for future customs officers!
