WEST UKRAINIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY

The staff of the Department of Foreign Languages, Information and Communication Technologies at WUNU provides training of specialists within the following educational and professional programs:

• “Business Communications and Translation” (Bachelor’s degree);

• “Philology (Germanic Languages): Teaching Methodology and Translation” (Master’s degree).

During their studies, in addition to general education courses, students take specialized professional disciplines such as: Foreign Language (English, German, French, Polish); Speech Culture in English-speaking, German-speaking, and Ukrainian-speaking communities; English-taught courses – Translation Studies, Linguistic and Cultural Studies, Communication Theory, Lexicology and Stylistics, Linguistics, Theory and Practice of Literary Translation, Theory and Practice of Legal Translation, Theory and Practice of Media Translation, Theory and Practice of Simultaneous Interpreting, Theory and Practice of Economic Translation, Theory and Practice of Scientific and Technical Translation; German-taught courses – Linguistic and Cultural Studies, Theory and Practice of Professionally-Oriented Translation, Theory and Practice of Simultaneous Interpreting, Research Methodology, Workshop in Professional Communication, Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages, Comparative Literary Studies, Workshop in Oral and Written English Translation, Workshop in Oral and Written German Translation, and others.

Graduates are prepared for professional roles such as: junior research fellow (philology, linguistics, and translation); philologist, linguist, translator and interpreter, guide-interpreter; translator of technical literature; editor-translator; literary associate; philologist-researcher; research fellow (philology, linguistics, and translation); research consultant (philology, linguistics, and translation); literary scholar; lecturer at institutions of higher education; teacher at secondary, specialized, and special education institutions.
