A week of training in crisis negotiation for the Zaporizhzhia regional police

 The first week of the training programme "Psychological Peculiarities of Crisis Negotiations for Police Officers in Extreme Conditions of Service" at the Education and Research Institute of Communications of WUNU was extremely dynamic and intense.


The participants - employees of the Main Department of the National Police in Zaporizhzhia Oblast - are incredible, motivated and very active in the classroom.


The speakers of the first week were:

- Steve Alban Tineo - founder and CEO of Assertive Group, a company for research and practice of negotiation, facilitation, leadership and influence, a practicing negotiator, a trusted member of the negotiation team for many of the most influential leaders in international relations and politics, who has led and advised negotiation and crisis management teams in many countries. He is the developer of the KYF© Know Yourself First training programme (Switzerland).


- Cédric Schweitzer is the Head of Human Resources Operations at the International Committee of the Red Cross, former Head of the ICRC Field Office in Yemen, co-founder and President of the HUDNA Foundation, Managing Partner of Assertive Group, lawyer, specialising in negotiations with governmental and non-governmental entities in crisis situations, a master of negotiation and fear management. He is considered one of the most qualified crisis negotiators and mediators in Europe. For more than 20 years, he has worked as a humanitarian negotiator in conflict zones around the world, negotiating with states and armed groups to gain access to the most vulnerable populations based on universal humanitarian principles. He has led multidisciplinary teams to respond to humanitarian crises and has been responsible for numerous crisis centres in emergencies or to address cases of kidnapping (Switzerland).


- Jan van Zwieten - Rector of the Netherlands Business Academy, President of the International Mediation Association, Chairman of the Board of the Dutch Quality Foundation for Mediators SKM, Director of the School of Negotiation and Mediation of the Education and Research Institute of Communications, Honorary Professor of West Ukrainian National University, practicing mediator, coach, trainer, court mediator of the Breda Court (Netherlands).


- Oleksandr Halchynskyi - psychologist, trauma therapist, CBT therapist, supervisor, psycho-oncologist, organisational psychotherapist, major in the Israeli Defence Forces, expert of the Israel Trauma Coalition (Israel).


- Teun-Peter de Snu is a doctoral student at the Institute of Behavioural Sciences, PhD in Clinical Psychology (Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour). He works and conducts research at the Man & Police Organisation Information Centre of the Netherlands Police Academy on police officers' stress resilience and successful performance in critical circumstances. The long-term research project "Police in Action" in cooperation with Radboud University has led to numerous findings. These findings are used to develop guidelines and training, such as the biofeedback game DUST. He is also a lecturer at the Netherlands Police Academy in the Netherlands.


The therapy round was organised by:

- Oksana Koval, Director of the Education and Research Institute of Communications, PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology and Social Work at West Ukrainian National University, psychological counsellor in the method of positive psychotherapy, leader of groups on working with loss, member of the Ukrainian Union of Psychotherapists and the World Association of Positive Psychotherapy (Ukraine).


- Diana Boyko is a psychological consultant in the method of positive psychotherapy, art therapist (Ukraine).


Professional translation and support of classes with foreign speakers was provided by:

- Anastasiia Martynevych - Coordinator of International Activities of the WUNU Education and Research Institute.

- Viktoriia Korobii - 1st grade interpreter of the International Relations Office of WUNU.


This week, the participants will have no less interesting sessions from Ukrainian and foreign experts.
