Today, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Ukraine Noel Israel Khohkar visited the classical university of Ternopil.

The distinguished guest was welcomed by university students who sang traditional Ukrainian carols. At a meeting with the administration of West Ukrainian National University in the conference hall, our scholars spoke about the activities of the higher education institution, the achievements of the teaching staff and students, as well as areas of international cooperation. Mr. Ambassador viewed the vernissage of Iryna Ivashchuk, the Director of B. Havrylyshyn Education and Research Institute of International Relations, and visited the Digital Library Hall, where Kazymyr Voznyi, Director of L. Kanishchenko WUNU library, told him about the university repository and new services.

Afterwards, the young men and women, together with their teachers, had the opportunity to talk to the Ambassador during an open lecture on "Pakistan: Foreign Policy and Bilateral Relations with Ukraine". During the meeting with WUNU students, Ambassador Khokhar focused on Pakistan's foreign policy, history and prospects of Ukrainian-Pakistani relations. Mr. Ambassador noted: "I am grateful to your rector for this opportunity to communicate with the youth of your university, because by promoting Pakistan in Ukraine and Ukrainian universities among our entrants, we will be able to develop relations between our countries in education. Over the past year, we have been able to increase the number of Pakistani students in Ukraine from 339 to more than 2,000, and in the near future there will be about 3,000. One of Pakistan's largest universities, the National University of Science and Technology, is ready to work with West Ukrainian National University, and today I have brought a number of proposals to the attention of your administration regarding academic exchanges and research." Mr. Ambassador also stressed the long-standing partnership between the two countries: "Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognize Ukraine's independence on March 18, 1991, which means that our peoples have been friends for 30 years. So far, we have reached 500 billion in trade, and we plan to further develop joint trade between our countries, and in the future even sign an agreement on preferential treatment."
