West Ukrainian National University - Classical University of Ternopil - was the first Ukrainian higher education institution to join the global initiative on climate change "Race to Zero" (https://www.sdgaccord.org/race-to-zero-for-universities-and-colleges-sign). Within the framework of this initiative, the university plans to develop a set of measures for decarbonisation, implementation of national and international programs for adaptation to climate change until 2050.

"Race to Zero" is a global campaign to develop leadership and support from businesses, cities, regions, and investors for a healthy, sustainable, zero-carbon that prevents future threats, creates decent jobs, and creates inclusive sustainable growth.

The campaign is mobilizing people outside national governments to join the Climate Ambition Alliance, which was launched at the 2019 UN Climate Summit.

The goal of "Race to Zero" is to increase the momentum around the transition to a decarbonised economy ahead of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), to be held in Glasgow from October 31 to November 12, 2021.

"Race to Zero" brings together a coalition of flagship initiatives with zero CO2 emissions, which includes 733 cities, 31 regions, 3,067 companies, 173 major investors and 622 higher education institutions. These actors in the "real economy" join the 120 countries of the largest alliance in history, which seeks to achieve a net zero level of carbon emissions no later than 2050. Together, these entities account for almost 25% of global CO2 emissions and more than 50% of GDP.
